Morning all,
We spent most of the day on site running over the work Mark needs to cover off over the next few weeks.
The site looks like a scene from Apocalypse now- see attached photo, as we burn branches, knock over buildings etc.
The small concrete block building is now down and work has begun on the foundations etc. This was interesting to watch as the wall was “cut” in sections using a wrecking bar, a couple of holes were drilled through the wall, a rope passed through and then the demo team pulled on the rope till it fell over. Mark ably assisted with this too. The method has been effective, if a little slower than we’re used to.
Power was off this morning so we went for a drive with the big guy from the main contractor. He turned up an hour later than he said he would (he may of course be running on European time) and took us to see a duplex he’d built for a mate of his which I wanted to look at using for the accommodation blocks just outside our west boundary wall. The block looked pretty good- well constructed though not sure about the roof which although does have a slight pitch we couldn’t see how much as we couldn’t climb up there.
I’ve given them the go-ahead for the guard house for the south east gate, which he started this afternoon.
Once all the wood from the trees has been flogged by the locals, we will secure this gate and make sure our security guys know what they’re supposed to do. We have commenced their training already though I think our demands may come as something of a shock to them as while they are very keen and interested, they’ve been spending way too much time wondering about and drinking tea in random parts of the site.
The container pad is well underway with some good prep work being done. I even saw a string line being used, and a plate compactor!
I introduced Mark to our contractor this morning and a daily catch up meeting has been arranged. Their progress has been good, they’re due to complete all the trees under the main area tomorrow and will then start on the compound. The dozer and graders turn p on Thursday to start the levelling work, so Mark is going to locate our survey pins and offsets before then.
The site bathrooms should be complete by the end of the weekend, and are looking pretty good so far with wall and floor timing underway and the various fittings due to go in tomorrow.
The residents of the small house have definitely gone and we have the key to it.
The residents of the big building are due out tomorrow. We’ve been reminding the guardian (father of the family who live here) of this every day and he seems to now have the message.
That’s it for now,
I’m off at midnight so will hand over to Mark.
Cheers
